Who is CHCD

When I was young, I would gather my sisters together to write and put on plays for our mother. And of course, in every play I casted myself as the heroine. By the time I was 16, I had been homeschooled since the 4th grade and felt like I missed out on the opportunity to be in Theatre like my friends in public school. I had participated in many plays at church and youth group as well as a church choir and a homeschool choir which only lasted for a few years, but by this time there wasn’t any group available. So, instead of being the actress, I decided to start a choir and drama group and gave up the heroine seat for the others to become the Director; only to find I enjoyed that job even more.

The first choir I taught had 10 people and drama had 4. This grew until the 3rd year when I had 30 in each group ages 5-18. The drama group has performed many different skits and plays including:
· “Fantasia on Stage”- short, no-word skits to classical music, to work on exaggerated expressions.
· “For Such a Time As This—The story of Esther” adapted from the Biblical account.
· “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe”.

All had full costumes, props, lighting, TONS of work, but a LOT of fun.

Choir has performed many songs--Christian, patriotic and secular songs. Some in rounds, 2-part harmony, actions, and sign language.

Both groups perform at senior citizen homes before having the main performance for family and friends. We do this as an outreach to the community. The senior citizens love to have visitors and I believe it is a great ministry for the children to participate in.
